Pregnancy Memories: Uh Oh

I found this entry from my journal recently. It made me laugh out loud thinking of K's face. Enjoy.

July 2010

Over the weekend we went out for dinner after K’s birthday party. My mom was there and both of my husband’s parents. We rehashed the entire exciting day. As we waited on desert, K started talking about the baby and how later in the week we are going to learn if it’s a boy or girl.

At this point I need to stop and explain that the running joke at our house, pretty much since I found out I was pregnant, is that the baby was going to be named Alfredo. My husband and daughter would both say it with a think imitation Italian accent and kiss their fingers as it came out.

Part of the reason it was such a great joke was that we have been telling people that we weren’t going to tell anyone the names we were considering. We want to pick a name for baby #2 without input from anyone else. We think it’s important to pick something that really works for us, and that we both like. And, that is going to be difficult enough without getting everyone else’s input.

So, up until now the only names any of the grandparents-to-be have heard were jokes. Alfredo, Shrek, Fionna, Cucumber sandwich, Flop (to go with the fish named Flip). You get the idea.

Needless to say, they were expecting K’s latest idea. Instead, she looked at her Dad and I and then looked at all three grandparents sitting across from us in the booth as said very matter of factly, “I-------.”

I honestly don’t remember who said what next, but we ended up saying that yes, if it’s a boy, we have decided on, “I-------.” So of course the grandparents immediately tried to get the girl name out of her. However, since we haven’t decided, they were out of luck…
